This guide will walk you through the process of configuring a custom domain for your returns portal (e.g. returns.brandname.com) and/or a custom email address for your transactional notifications (e.g. tracking@brandname.com). These customizations he
SETTING UP A CUSTOM DOMAIN FOR THE RETURNS PORTAL
If you’d like your returns portal to live on a custom domain (e.g., returns.brandname.com instead of the default iF Returns domain), follow these steps:
Step 1: Request Domain Setup
Send an email to customer.support@ifreturns.com with the subject line “DNS CONFIGURATION”. Indicate that you'd like to configure a custom domain for your returns portal, and include the domain you want to use (e.g., returns.brandname.com).
Step 2: Receive Your CNAME Records
iF Returns will generate 2 CNAME records for you to add to your DNS settings. These records are required to verify domain ownership and activate your portal.
Step 3: Add CNAME Records to Your DNS
Log in to your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, etc.), and add the two CNAME records exactly as provided. If you're unsure how to do this, your IT team or hosting provider can help.
Step 4: Complete Within 48 Hours
These records expire after 48 hours. Please make sure they are added and saved in your DNS panel before the deadline. If not, the process will need to be restarted.
Step 5: Confirm Setup
Once the records are added, send a follow-up email to customer.support@ifreturns.com with the subject line “CONFIRMED DNS REGISTRATION”. iF Returns will verify everything and finalize the setup.
SETTING UP A CUSTOM SENDER EMAIL FOR NOTIFICATIONS
To send transactional emails (e.g. tracking updates, return confirmations) from your own branded email address (like returns@brandname.com), you’ll need to configure DNS records to enable DKIM authentication. This ensures your emails are trusted and not flagged as spam.
Step 1: Request Sender Email Setup
Send an email to customer.support@ifreturns.com with the subject line “DNS CONFIGURATION”. Let us know that you want to set up a custom sender email address, and include the address you'd like to use (e.g., tracking@brandname.com).
You can also request both domain + sender in the same message if needed.
Step 2: Receive Your DKIM (CNAME) Records
You’ll receive 3 CNAME records generated through AWS SES (Amazon’s email service). These records:
- Verify ownership of the domain
- Enable DKIM signing to authenticate the emails you send
Step 3: Add the Records to Your DNS
As with the domain setup, log in to your DNS provider and add the three CNAME records as instructed. Be sure they match exactly—any typo may break the configuration.
Step 4: Complete Setup Within 48 Hours
These records are also time-sensitive. They must be added and saved within 48 hours of receipt or they will expire.
Step 5: Confirm and Validate
Once the records are in place, send an email to customer.support@ifreturns.com with the subject line “CONFIRMED DNS REGISTRATION”. Our team will validate the setup and let you know once your custom sender address is live.
